Themes and influences...

Jane pursues and develops particular themes, for example the 'Fragments and Finds' series which were based initially on a still life arrangement of various pots. Suggestive of archeological discoveries where one might see only a part of the object or a partial view of a collection of items; Howard Carter's comment on first seeing the treasures of Tutankamun "I see beautiful things" is called to mind. Having a long standing connection to Cornwall, especially the West Penwith area which is rich in ancient and mystical sites, she cannot fail to be influenced by its light, colours and textures. From the rough granite of the cliffs and standing stones, to the yellow gorse and purple heather of the moors, and the deep blues to greeny greys of the sea in all its moods.

The more recently worked theme of experimental, predominantly water colour images is titled 'Little Worlds, Big Events'. This latest series reflects the momentous events occurring at the end of this century. A period that has seen man push the frontiers of exploration to the moon and further into our galaxy than could have been dreamt of at its beginning. Events such as the appearance of Halleys Comet, Hale Bop, the eclipse, various meteor showers, and culminating in the millennium itself. The images may be richly complex or so understated as to be minimalist in their treatment, echoing the latest revelations of the furthest reaches of our visible and imagined space.

The work is evolving once more and at present has a mystical iconographic feel to the images and their presentation.
